Domestic Violence – Criminal Mischief

Domestic Violence – Criminal Mischief

You may be granted a restraining order if your spouse or partner purposely or knowingly damages your personal property.  As you can tell from some of the other offenses defined in previous sections of this blog, a lot of the offenses for domestic violence go hand in hand.  For example, someone can break into your home and write nasty messages in paint on your wall and be charged with harassment, criminal mischief, burglary and terroristic threats.

In determining the severity of punishment for criminal mischief, the police will need to determine the monetary loss or damage to the personal property.  Take care to protect yourself from someone who has destroyed your personal property.  Contact your local police department and report this type of behavior.
